Los Fresnos area residents no longer need to go out of town to take care of their loved ones who have gone to another world.

A new funeral home is open to the public and it will offer competitive prices in an industry mostly dominated by large corporations.

The average cost of burying the deceased averages from $5,000 to $7,000 in this part of the country.

Angel Lucy’s Funeral Homes has expanded its operations by opening its third site as the company has one each in Port Lavaca and Victoria.

Owned by Cesar and Belia Ornelas, Angel Lucy’s has a full line of burial services and packages.

“We are going to have competitive prices,” he said.

“We also like to get involved locally in the community as we believe in giving back to the community.”

During the two years the building that houses the funeral home has been remodeled, the Ornelas have given several thousands of toys and shoes to needy children. The give-aways are handled through a local Baptist church and the school district.

The Ornelas said they choose Los Fresnos because they like the people, the area and its excellent schools.

As to the funeral house, Cesar Ornelas said it takes its name from the family matriarch, Lucia, who was a very loving person who cared for her community.

“After mom died in Port Lavaca, a local pastor said an angel has gone to heaven,” he said.

“We named the funeral home and set up a foundation after her.”
